Article about The Coconut Club & Park by KANOPEA in the magazine Chroniques d’Architecture

The KANOPEA STUDIO agency (Charles Gallavardin & Tereza Zelenkova Gallavardin) completed The Coconut Club & Park in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in 2022. This 1,800 m² manifesto building was a winner in the 2023 AFEX Awards. Discover it in video.

The Coconut Club & Park project is located in the heart of Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital, specifically on the Koh Pick peninsula, a rapidly developing district near the historic center at the confluence of the Mekong and Bassac rivers. The project includes a park and a main building designed to provide Phnom Penh residents with a space to gather, play, picnic, dine, learn, and take care of themselves.

« This building is a manifesto of intelligent biophilic architecture, bringing nature around and into the building without significantly increasing the load on the concrete structure (to avoid extra costs), as most of the plants and trees grow directly in the natural soil around the building. Maintenance is easy, and the plants can thrive without a sophisticated irrigation system », the agency emphasized.
