Interview with Architecture Lab - What inspired Kanopea to orient sustainable architecture?
October 17, 2024
We are excited to share our recent interview with ArchitectureLab, where we had the opportunity to discuss our journey and passion for architecture, particularly our work in sustainable and low carbon architecture. The interview dives into key aspects of our career and design philosophy, offering insight into what drives our approach to sustainable architecture.
In the interview, we were asked, “What inspires you?” and had the chance to reflect on how nature, local communities, and sustainable design have shaped our work. This led to a discussion about what inspired us to become architects, where we shared how early exposure to the relationship between built environments (including heritage) and nature motivated us to pursue a career in architecture.
We also discussed our design philosophy, which centers around the principles of sustainable architecture—creating structures that harmonize with the local environment, reduce energy consumption, and enhance the quality of life for inhabitants. This design philosophy underpins all of our projects, from large-scale developments to smaller, more intimate builds.
Another interesting part of the interview was when we revealed our favorite architectural detail—one that exemplifies the beauty of simplicity and functionality in design.
Lastly, we talked about our work on the Villa de Week-end Durable, a project that beautifully captures the essence of bioclimatic architecture. The villa's design was inspired by a deep understanding of the local climate and environment, allowing it to operate efficiently while blending seamlessly with its natural surroundings.
